Basic Principle
The first step is to create a “Setupâ€Â. A setup is usually an aquarium, but it could be a pond or anything else really that hold water! You can add as many aquariums as your licence allows. For home users, this is unlimited.
To this setup, you add all of your equipment and livestock. This will be your fish, plants, corals, invertebrates and your filters, lights, heaters etc. Even the timers for your lights and any other equipment you like. All of this is easily done by adding items from the AquaTrax database. You will find the database is very comprehensive and is growing all the time, but you can also add your own more unusual/rare items if you cannot find them. Add as little or as much as you like. You decide.
As you add the items to your setup, you will have the opportunity to record where, when and how much you paid for it, plus lots of other information. AquaTrax also has photos of most of the items, such as fish and equipment and again, this is growing all the time. You may add your own photo to make it more personal to you. Suppliers, manufacturers, shops and websites are included to record who you bought your items from, as well as acting as a search engine when looking for a potential supplier.
Once you have your setup ready, you can then record ongoing information such as water changes, water test results, water treatments added. Over time this information will build up to give you a full picture of your setup helping you to spot trends and potential problems.
The AquaTrax Database
Many items you search for, or add, are stored in the built-in database. AquaTrax can also use your internet connection to download additional information such as photographs from our central database server. Optionally, share your own additions to the database as well. You could just use the software as a comprehensive encyclopaedia; but of course, you are more likely going to want to add the items into your setups.
Included in the database as standard:
Equipment – Aquariums, Lights, heaters, filters, sump tanks etc
Plants
Livestock - Fish, corals, inverts etc
Suppliers - Manufacturers, shops, websites etc
Diseases
The idea is that every element of your aquarium, from the tank to the fish, from the filter media to the supplier you get it all from, is already in the system, This allows you to simply select the item and add it to your own setup in the software - Quick and easy.
Aquatrax includes the ability for you to record items as a “Favouriteâ€Â. This will add the item to the top of any lists, saving you from searching through the entire database for the items you use more frequently. There is also a wish lists section where you can add the items you would like to get, both equipment and livestock. Once again this allows you to quickly find that special item, when you decide to purchase it.
